Saugus Mill District

Located at the Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site, the Saugus Mill District project introduces 50 new apartment units along the riverfront to promote the economic viability and expand the pedestrian corridor of Downtown Saugus. The innovative design integrates sustainable building and landscape strategies while displaying a modern aesthetic that is sensitive to the historic context. A new accessible pedestrian bridge using high-tech wood construction spans the river to connect the development to the townhomes and nature trails along the east bank. The site design includes maintenance and restoration of natural vegetation along the riverfront as well as the planting of native species around the new buildings and public spaces. Additional program elements include a cafe, yoga studio, restaurant and retail space, and a 78-space parking garage.
